Multi-Target Tracking using Signal Strength Measurements

چکیده
Many surveillance tasks rely on the generation of stable, continuous tracks of objects of interest. Often, track continuity has a higher priority than track accuracy, as valuable information on the identity or the origin of an object is lost by each track drop. The main source of track fragmentation are missing detections due to a limited field of view or technical or topographical masking. In the multi-target case, in addition, individual tracks can be interchanged by unknown data assignments. Therefore, the exploitation of additional sensor data is required in order to discriminate individual objects and to associate track fragments. As signal strength measurements are standard output of modern radar systems, the integration of this information into a Bayesian tracking scheme is discussed in the present paper. In contrast to previous approaches, the knowledge on the target’s signal strength is not only used for an improved calculation of the association probabilities, but it enters into the algorithm as a random variable which is estimated sequentially. By this approach it is not only possible to discriminate closely-spaced targets and improve the track continuity, but also to support possible classification and identification tasks. The signal strength fluctuations of the target returns are modeled by the Swerling-I and Swerling-III cases. As a first performance evaluation, numerical results are presented based on a two-target simulation scenario.

Decentralized and Cooperative Multi-Sensor Multi-Target Tracking With Asynchronous Bearing Measurements
Bearings only tracking is a challenging issue with many applications in military and commercial areas. In distributed multi-sensor multi-target bearings only tracking, sensors are far from each other, but are exchanging data using telecommunication equipment. In addition to the general benefits of distributed systems, this tracking system has another important advantage: if the sensors are suff...

متن کاملMultiple Target Tracking With a 2-D Radar Using the JPDAF Algorithm and Combined Motion Model
Multiple target tracking (MTT) is taken into account as one of the most important topics in tracking targets with radars. In this paper, the MTT problem is used for estimating the position of multiple targets when a 2-D radar is employed to gather measurements. To do so, the Joint Probabilistic Data Association Filter (JPDAF) approach is applied to tracking the position of multiple targets. To ...

In this paper we have presented a new procedure for sonar image target tracking using PHD filter besides K-means algorithm in high density clutter environment. We have presented K-means as data clustering technique in this paper to estimate the location of targets. Sonar images target tracking is a very good sample of high clutter environment. As can be seen, PHD filter because of its special f...
